client interaction to explore feelings, values, attitudes and behavior which may
contribute to drug use. Helps
Individuals recognize and normalize anger and teaches acceptable ways of
expressing anger and stress. Clients learn to better control anger to avoid
violent outbursts. Enables
victims to recognize risk and conceptualize alternatives, protect Clients
learn about lifestyle change, chemical dependency, traffic safety and effects of
high risk behavior. Empowers parents with effective parenting skills through group involvement, education classes, support groups, family meetings and individual counseling. Women's
groups, men's groups, teen groups, Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous
in English and Spanish provide peer support for individuals making life changes.
Teaches
youth skills for effective decision making. Includes Rites of Passage, Plans for
Personal Change, Self Esteem and Affirmative Values. Education to prevent youth involvement with drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and early identification and intervention for youths experimenting with drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Avalon-Carver Community Center Community Prevention Program has been providing alcohol and drug prevention services on the campuses of elementary and junior high schools since 1985. Since 1975 Avalon-Carver has been providing alcohol and drug abuse services in some of the housing developments of Los Angeles.
