Avalon-Carver Community Center Community Prevention Program has been providing alcohol and drug prevention services on the campuses of elementary and junior high schools since 1985. Targeting specifically school-age minority youth, our curriculum attempts to impact and include school, family and community. Our program believes that young people need a strong and healthy sense of self, as well as strong and positive values and role models to help them remain alcohol, drug and gang free. The program is designed to help young people improve their self-esteem, self-identities and their understanding and appreciation of their cultural heritage.

Our services include weekly culture - based self-identity workshops; daily academic enrichment (tutoring classes); rites of passage/cultural identity; and mentoring programs, as well as community focused events as alternative activities to substance abuse.
